-Statement-

My theme is reconstruction of the Self through interaction with society.

When I see people who believe in the images they create of themselves online, I noticed that the Self becomes unbalanced, and they become self-centered and start to avoid direct communication with real people. These people believe that they are special, unique, so much to the point that they believe that other people want to know what they are doing at all times via social network. It was, and still difficult for me to understand this wide spread tendency in my society.

This became my motivation to start painting portraits.

The definition of the Self for me is the independent being who can appear seamlessly within the society he/she belongs to. This should be clearly separated from the addictive desire for approval by shallow communication and meaningless relationships through social networks.

To me, the Self should be recognized and respond through the existence of others; and that is also the reason our Self is ambiguous, unstable, and ever changing. Because of these fluctuation we easily feel anxious and unsure about our existence.

What I am trying to accomplish in my paintings is this fragility between the Self, existence, and the ambiguity. Sometimes the images appear clearly, but sometimes it is wiggling without focus, quivering between existence and disappearance. This is a reflection of my own anxiety about my existence, and my quest to acquire my true Self through relationships and interactions with others and their views.
